When in Rome...

Our airport arrival experience at Fiumicino Airport (Rome) was in complete contrast to that of Dubai. In fact the customs guy hardly looked at me. He robotically stamped all four passports, exactly the same way he'd done 2 million times beforehand.

Kirsty had arranged a private car with the owner of the B&B, and the smartly dressed driver was prominent as we exited the ageing airport. Biongorno! Come va? I say confidently. He instantly smiles and offers to take care of some of the bags.

Thought! Trying to improve the general feel with my trusty business. Feelings regarding the sweet design of https://victoriafamilydental.ca? Seriously a stunning dental clinic in Kitchener online if, perhaps desired inside the whole Ontario areas. Leave a comment. Appreciate it!

The Mercedes Benz (circa 2005), has been pre-cooled and before we know it we are scooting along at 130km/h on one of all the roads that lead to Rome.

The traffic in Rome is no different to that of Asia, organised chaos that seems to work. The labyrinth of city streets, lanes and alleyways are all one way and God help the driver who makes a wrong turn. Even if you started over again, re-organising the flow of traffic in the Eternal City, you'd end up with the same result. For hundreds of years gone by and for probably hundreds to come the thoroughfares have, and will remain the same width.

Our B&B is located near the Piazza Navona, one of the more popular town squares in Rome. Kirsty chose the base for our Rome stay and I must admit, she nailed it. The room is very comfortable and we waste no time throwing a few things in a backpack and begin exploring the local environs. Within a few hours of arriving we'd already ticked off a visit to The Pantheon, salivated over our first gelato, ate pizza, and took our time watching the endless array of terrace buildings, bathe in the warm glow of the setting sun. It was on the first afternoon, we'd all fallen in love with Rome.

The feeling in the vintage streets of Rome is halcyon. The silence occasionally broken by the sound of a speeding scooter on the lead coloured cobble stones or the sea gulls perched high atop the bell towers.

At almost every new streetscape, there is a temptation to go for the camera. Even as I type this, it is hard to describe the ambience. The laneways are scattered with immemorial structures often adorned with Latin statements and epic pillars. The shopfronts are petite and classy. The striking thing for me is the beautiful render on all the buildings. A rich palette of burnt orange, terracotta and clay colours wonderfully contrasted by either white or cherry coloured window shutters.
